The real reason drumming feels difficult

Most drummers try to fix symptoms.

Practice faster.
Learn harder exercises.
Push through tension.

But often the real issue is something deeper:

how the body actually moves behind the drum set.

When mechanics are misaligned:

• speed feels tense
• endurance disappears
• control becomes inconsistent
• grooves feel harder than they should

What You Get Inside Drum Routines LAB

Structured courses that develop the physical foundations of drumming.

Who Drum Routines LAB Is For

Drum Routines LAB is for drummers who want to understand how their body actually works behind the kit.

For players who care about:

• mechanics and efficiency
• setup and ergonomics
• long-term development
• solving problems at the root cause

You don’t need to choose a genre first.

You need a foundation that supports everything.

Why This Approach Works

Most drummers try to fix symptoms without understanding the root cause.

Practice faster.
Practice more.
Learn harder material.

But if mechanics and ergonomics are misaligned, progress becomes harder than it needs to be.

When setup, movement and control are aligned:

• speed comes easier
• endurance improves
• dynamics become controllable
• playing feels lighter and more natural

Fundamentals first. Style second.

"Tuomas' teaching style is student-centred and clear. He shows his students what he is teaching in great detail and also tries to clarify the subject matter by explaining all the essentials. Another good thing about Tuomas' teaching is the relaxed atmosphere, which makes the drum student feel safe and at home and helps to relax appropriately. I would recommend both to the beginner and to those of us who are advanced in drumming." -Marko

Meet Your Coach

I’m Tuomas Rauhala, a Finnish drummer and educator specializing in the mechanics and movement of drumming.

Over the years I’ve performed and taught across many musical styles — from classical percussion to rock, metal, jazz and fusion. Through teaching hundreds of drummers, one pattern has become very clear:

Many playing problems are not caused by lack of practice, but by inefficient movement and misunderstood mechanics.

Small things like stick rebound, pedal connection, body alignment and tension patterns can make drumming feel much harder than it needs to be.

That’s why my teaching focuses on the physical foundations of drumming:

mechanics
ergonomics
efficient movement
relaxed control

The goal is simple: help drummers develop a natural and efficient way to play, so technique supports musical expression instead of limiting it.

When the foundation works, everything else becomes easier.
